Technical Terminology

To make a successful website, you need to work closely with your web designer rather than just keep you blind folded. Hence, like marketing terminology, these technical terms are vital to learn.

Domain Name

- A series of alphanumeric strings separated by periods, such as www.yourbusiness.com, which is an address of a computer network connection and that identifies the owner of the address. (Like your home address)

Web Hosting Service

- It is a type of internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to make their own website accessible via the website. (Like the land you rent of your home)

PPC

- Pay Per Click, term label for advertising with Google. You are charged base on the number of people that click and visit your website.

Google Slap

- It is a term used affectionately by mainly small businesses that rely on AdWords accounts through Google to drum up business for their sites but if Google finds or determines the page that potential customers visit when they click on the ad is not related, is poor in quality or even loads too slow, they may take punitive action in charging higher price per click. (Google Tagline: DON'T BE EVIL)

Google Love

- It is the opposite term of Google Slap. For instance, if Google finds or determines the page or website that customer click on the ad is relatively true, good in quality, they enjoy Google love in terms of discounts per click. (Thus, your designer equip with this information is a MUST)

Google Analytics

- It lets you measure your advertising ROI as well as your track your Flash, video and social networking sites and applications.

SEO

- Search Engine Optimization, is the process of improving the visibility of a web site or a web page in search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing etc) via the "natural" or un-paid search results.

Hyperlink

- A hyperlink (or link) is a reference to a document that a reader can directly follow or that is followed automatically. (To another web address, page, email & document)

Anchor Text

- The anchor text, link label or link title is the visible, click able text in a hyperlink.

Google Spider

- It is a term that scans the web and save the information in websites to a virtual database.
